Day Seven - Night Train to Hue

We are scheduled on the night train from Nha Trang to Hue. The trip will take fifteen hours. I'm not sure there is enough booze in Vietnam for this leg of the trip.
We have bunks in a soft sleeper with Air Conditioning. We no doubt will be sharing the space because there are four bunks. This should prove to be an interesting social experience for us.
Stay tuned for more.

Martha's Notes:

At the train station in Nha Trang there was a short, fierce semi-English-speaking woman who took it upon herself to take care of/translate for the Americans and Europeans at the train station.  She told us where to buy snacks, and guided us to our car on the train.  Of course, she wanted a "souvenir" when she left.  We gladly gave her a little money, as she was funny and helpful, if a bit annoying.

So, the soft sleeper was slightly more comfortable than our first leg on the train.  There was power, but the adapter and plug were too heavy to hold in the outlet, so Chuck wasn't able to use his CPAP to sleep.

We brought some Vietnamese whiskey along that we picked up in Nha Trang to have a nightcap before bed.  Um, Vietnamese whiskey tastes like fish!  First time ever I threw away a nearly full bottle!

Chuck and I each got lower bunks, and two young Vietnamese men got the upper ones.  Neither made much noise, and both got off before morning, so we had the space to ourselves early the next morning as the sun came up and we saw the scenery for the last five or so hours into Hue.  It was lovely....cliffs dropping off onto ocean beaches.  Boats.  Even what looked like whales down in the water.

The train car was moldy and mildewed and I ended up with runny nose and itchy eyes and clogged sinuses.  Luckily, a few hours away from the train and a couple of Benadryl helped.
