Train Rides

It is now 14 days until departure.  Tonight I emailed a tour agent (Vietnam Impressive) for our train tickets. Their website ordering system seems to not work at this time hence the email.  The train is relatively inexpensive and it will allow us to see the countryside on our day rides.

We'll be taking an overnight train as well and have booked a sleeper cabin for that portion. This way our hotel rent will be spent on the train and we get the travel to our next stop in one swoop. It should be quite enjoyable.

Now, if I can manage to wrap my brain around the trains break neck speeds. I am told that this train can get all the way up into the mid forty mile an hour range. I already can hear the "Clack, clack. Clack, clack, Clack clack,"

  1. Sounds like quite an adventure! Are there folding hiking poles that will fit in your luggage? My name is set to BugNerd for some reason. Must have registered somewhere with that username :) ~Ricky

  2. Ricky, the problem is that we are doing carry on only and trying to stay very minimalist as we will be moving around in country a lot. TSA states that the hiking poles are "clubs" and they also fit the "spear" category (titanium tip on the bottom for hiking in rocks). Both are TSA no-no's.

  3. Might be a silly question or not practical, but could you check the pole like luggage? Was thinking about musicians, etc. with instruments or equipment.

  4. I'm thinking that I will be able to get trekking poles at Cho Ben Thanh Market (an amazing place for everything you ever want). I really don't want to get into the whole checked luggage thing for convenience sake.
